Summary of Recent Classis Meeting

On September 15, 2025, Classis Central U.S. of the United Reformed Churches in North America met at Cornerstone United Reformed Church in Sanborn, Iowa for its 61st meeting.
After an evening meal and time of fellowship, the assembly began their work underneath the leadership of the chairman, Rev. Nathan Voss (Faith URC - Beecher) and vice-chairman, Rev. Joel Wories (Immanuel URC - De Motte). The chairman noted two new ministers within classis, Rev. Daniel Hofland, recently ordained and installed in Doon URC, and Rev. Steve Oeverman, recently installed in Oak Glen URC. The meeting also began with all of the delegates indicating their agreement with the Form of Subscription thereby expressing their unified commitment to the biblical truth as summarized within the Three Forms of Unity.
After receiving a few routine reports from classis functionaries and mission works, classis considered numerous overtures. These overtures dealt with matters such as: method of scheduling and calling for classis meetings, the financial support of an emeritus minister, grammatical edits to the Church Order, a timeline for the adjudication of appeals, and church visitor reports to classis. All but one overture was adopted by classis.
As usual, classis received requests from several consistories for advice or concurring advice in discipline matters. At this meeting of classis, a consistory also requested advice in regard to the suspension of a minister. In each of these cases, the assembly carefully sought to give biblical and pastoral advice to the respective consistories.
In addition, classis also received various fraternal greetings and appointed or re-appointed a number of functionaries. Prior to adjourning, classis set its next meeting for March 2 & 3, 2026 to be convened and hosted by Community United Reformed Church in Schereville, Indiana.
