Summary of Recent Classis Meeting

Classis Central U.S. Press Release

June 9, 2025

On June 9, 2025, Classis Central U.S. of the United Reformed Churches in North America met at Covenant Reformed Church in Pella, Iowa for its 60th meeting.

This meeting of classis was an extra meeting in addition to the regular spring and fall meetings. Its specific purpose was the candidacy exam for Mr. Daniel Hofland. Mr. Hofland is a member of Covenant Reformed Church in Pella, Iowa, and is a recent graduate from Mid-America Reformed Seminary.

The afternoon hours included Mr. Hofland being examined by various ministers of the Word from classis in sections that include: Practica, Bible Knowledge, Biblical Exegesis, Confessional Knowledge, Reformed Doctrine, Church History, Ethics, and Church Polity.

Upon the conclusion of the examination, the Consistory of Covenant Reformed Church determined that Mr. Hofland had sustained his candidacy exam and the delegates of classis concurred. Therefore, the Consistory of Covenant Reformed Church will declare Mr. Hofland eligible for a call to the office of minister of the Word after which the churches can extend a call to him.

It was with a note of joy that the delegates saw a man sustain a candidacy examination, especially in light of the numerous vacancies within the churches of our federation.

Respectfully Submitted,

Rev. Greg Lubbers, Stated Clerk
